What is the weight of the First?

The First weights 7 kilograms (± 250 oz or ± 15 lbs).

What is the First dimensions?

The First has the following dimensions: 215 mm (length), 205 mm (depth) and 430 mm (height) for a total volume of 19 litres.

Does it really make no noise?

For configurations up to i5 8500k and GTX 1060, The First is cooled passively without any fan. For higher configurations up to i7 8700k and GTX 1080, The First is cooled silently with a low speed 120 mm or 140 mm fan installed inside the chassis. In this case, the fan is only activated during short period of time in the event of intense computing (benchmark, software calculation, AAA Games, etc.). From an electronics perspective, some electronics components may intrinsically produce “coil whine”. This electrical noise is independent of the cooling solution and can be avoided by selecting premium brands.

Can I choose the colour?

Colours will be gradually introduced as new batches will be put for sales.

  • BATCH 1 available colour: black
  • BATCH 2 available colours: black or white.
  • BATCH 3 available colours: black, white. Other colours might be proposed.

How can I assemble my First alone?

The First is a 100% dismountable case. Although it will be sold assembled in a first place, DIY kit will be offered in the coming months.

My graphic card is longer than 270mm, why is it still compatible?

A graphic card is composed of a PCB with a housing (heatsink and fan) mounted onto it. The assembled graphic card can be longer than the PCB itself. The effective length to take in consideration for The First is the PCB length. This explain why some graphic cards are compatible although being longer than 270 mm, housing included.

Is there any warranty problem to remove my graphic card HeatSink and Fan (HSF)?

To mount the graphic card onto The First heatsink, you will have to remove the HSF (heatsink and fan). This step is mandatory to have a passive computer. Each graphic card manufacturer has its own warranty policy regarding the disassembly of the HSF. Please refer to your card specification. We will publish soon a tutorial to help you during this process. Disassembling a card is a quite mainstream process in all high-end cooling solutions, liquid cooling being the most common example.

Can you help me to mount my electronic into The First?

Tutorial videos are on their way. Some are already available on our Youtube channel. A “support” email will be available when first cases will be delivered (Update 12/07/2018).

What about VRM cooling?

Contrary to traditional configurations, cards are positioned vertically within The First in a ventilated space. This positioning maximizes natural air convection and sufficient in most of the case to keep them under reasonable temperatures. For higher configurations, an option has been designed and you can find the full explanation following this link. These heatsinks are currently developed and will be proposed in option (Update 19/11/2018).

What about 20XX graphic cards? Are they compatible?

Many references have been added into our “compatibility” section (Update 19/11/2018). In the same time, we are working right now on a solution to guarantee 100% compatibility with all graphic cards. This additional item won’t have any impact on The First cases already sold and produced. We’ll keep you up to date when this option is available through Inside ML or our mailing list. (Update 18/10/2018)

What about VEGA references?

VEGA references are now compatible thanks to our customized riser. You can read the full article following this link (Update: 12/07/2018).

What about LGA 2011 sockets?

As it is sold right now, LGA 2011 sockets are equipped with an ILM (Independant Loading Mechanism) acting as a mounting kit already placed onto the chip. This fixation prevents us from using our own mounting sets. This “stock” mounting mechanisms can be dismantled. However, this action involves risks we prefer you not to take. By the time we find a solution, we will declare LGA 2011 socket as non-compatible. If you still want to attempt this, please contact us beforehand at info[at] We’ll give you a few hints.

Is The First compatible with my power supply?

The First is compatible with SFX, SFX-L and ATX power supplies. Maximum lenght is 160mm.

Does the power supply vertical positioning have a negative impact on its functioning?

No, there won’t be any overheating problem. First, the power supply is located inside the coolest place of the case. Second, The First is equipped with rubber feet that leave room for air intake and enable “Chimney effect” cooling. Hot air naturally goes up towards the upper part of the case. These two characteristics guarantee a proper cooling for the power supply. None of our thermal tests has revealed a problem.

How many storage drives can I install?

4 storage emplacements are available: 1x 3.5 HDD and 3x 2.5 SSD.

Does the height of my power supply have an impact on the SSD slots?

No. SSD are mounted onto the mechanical structure in a separate place. You can add up to 3 SSDs when using an ATX power supply.

Does the height of my power supply have an impact on active cooling mouting?

It does, the design only allows the mouting on a fan inside the case with a SFX or SFX-L power supply. We are currently working on an option to mount a fan on the top of the case for people who plan to install an ATX power supply (Update 19/11/2018).

What is the maximum compatible height for memory bars?

All standard formats are compatible. For non-standard formats, memory bars’ height up to 60 mm are compatible.

Do you offer warrantee or support?

We offer a 2-years guarantee in the European Union, 1-year elsewhere for the mechanical and cooling parts.

Do you plan to sell The First chassis with electronics?

We will introduce PC systems by the end of the year. Specific configurations will be proposed for dedicated usage such as gaming, workstation, 3D simulation, VR entertainment, home systems, etc.

What is the maximum TDP?

The heatsink cooling capacity is shared between the CPU and GPU. That’s why it’s hard to separate TDP from each component. Recomended configuration is: i5-8600k + GTX 1060 = 95W + 120W = 215W.

Note that using both components fully loaded, simultaneously and continuously is an extreme and rare situation that only happens for short periods of time in most real-life applications. That explains why combinaisons such as i8700k and GTX 1080/RTX 2070  are possible in full fanless mode.

Otherwise, we recommend to use an additional fan for this type of configuration if you plan to bench, calculate or play games that requires a lot of power. Even if you can stay passive, our heatsink combines with an additional fan (used in slow and silent mode when needed) will cool your system as good as high performing standard coolings.

What is the recommended configuration?

In full fanless mode:

  • CPU: Intel Core i5 8600k
  • GPU: GTX 1060

In silent mode (25% low speed fan):

  • CPU: Intel Core i7 8700k
  • GPU: GTX 1080 / RTX 2070

Is there any dust filter at the bottom of the case where the air intake is located?

No, this option has not been considered until now. In passive cooling cases, air flows are very slow making dust suction negligible (contrary to a case equipped with numerous powerful fans). In addition, adding a dust filter will create pressure drops and will ultimately have a negative impact on the cooling performance due to a decrease of the “chimney effect”.

Is The First compatible with an active cooling with fans?

The First has been conceived to operate passively (= without fan) in the vast majority of cases. However, for extreme configuration or an intensive use of the electronics, it is possible to mount an optional low speed fan inside the case in a dedicated slot below the heatsink. This dedicated slot can accommodate a 120 mm or 140 mm fan when using an SFX power supply. For ATX power supplies or double fan configurations, we are currently working on an additional large fan slot (200 mm typically), located at the top of the case.

What are the solutions to optimize cable management?

Cables management is a critical aspect for 2 main reasons: (1) it has an impact on the interior aestheticism of the case and most important, (2) it can impede air flow and reduce passive cooling efficiency if not properly done. This is especially true in small form factor cases, where available volume is quite limited. Although cables management of The First can be done quite easily with standards length cables, we are currently working on custom cables options with specialized partners. We’ll keep you up to date when this option is available through Inside ML or our mailing list. (MAJ 18/10/2018)

Are the external reviews made by journalists on their way?

A first review is now available on, a specialized french website focused on hardware and gaming. You can find the full article following this link. A short version in english will be soon available on More reviews are expected in the upcoming weeks (Update 19/11/2018).

When skins options will be available?

Customization will be gradually introduced over the forthcoming months. Various choices of colours, materials and shape will be offered.

Can I customize my First?

You have 2 options:

  • You can either chose among our customizations
  • You can either customize your First. We will share our drawings so that markers and modders can produce their own skins, shapes, front panel, etc. The First is 100% dismountable, you can remove any parts, upgrade and change them. The First is Yours.

Can I install RGB into The First?

No risk, no fun, no RGB. Our goal is not to propose, like (almost) everyone else onto this market, RGB options. But at some point, we might get bored and work on it. In the meantime, if you’re fond of Spacecraft or Unicorn rig, you can try to integrate them.
